Hotels in the Chao Phraya area
When visiting Bangkok as a tourist, no area is more pleasant to stay at than the area next to the Chao Phraya River. That is naturally the reason for most of the luxurious and expensive hotels being located in the area close to the Taksin Bridge. However, despite the area’s beauty, the major disadvantage by staying at the River area is that it takes a lot of time to get to different spots in Bangkok from there — for instance to the best shopping centers. Should you be planning to go shopping at Siam Square, you will have to prepare yourself for a 40 minutes trip.

Hilton. Millenium Hilton is one of the best hotels in Bangkok. The location, on the Thonburi bank of Chao Phraya River, is just fantastic. The rooms start at slightly less than 6.000 baht. The facilities include a first class spa, a fitness center and a nice sun bath deck. There are quite a few restaurants and bars at Hilton, one bar is Three Sixty Lounge on the 32nd floor and one of the restaurants is Flow, where the breakfast is being served. Conference and meeting facilities are of course being offered. Click here for more details on Millenium Hilton.

Marriott Riverside. With its unique lush garden layout and a large, open pool area, Marriot Riverside in Bangkok is a rather unique resort complex in Bangkok. For those tourists who are eager to stay under the sun most of the time during the visit to Thailand, the Bangkok visit does not need to be an exception from this — not if checking in at this resort anyway. Among the first class restaurants at Marriott you will find the Polynesian dining venue Trader Vic’s, which serves outstanding food. Should you instead be interested in getting an extraordinary entertainment experience, the main restaurant, next to the river, offers a delicate dinner buffet while you during your dinner can watch a traditional Thai show with music, dance and acting. The buffet is just great and thus highly recommended! The rooms at Marriott Riverside start at 5.000 baht. For more details on the resort, please click here.

Menam Riverside. In its Asian style, Menam Riverside is a Bangkok hotel well worth the price paid for a room. It is has a beautiful location on the Bangkok side of Chao Phraya river. The rooms start at 3.000 baht, breakfast included. Despite the comparably low prices, Menam, with its 550 rooms and suites, are of premier class. The service is high and you can expect to get treated well. The facilities include a clean large pool, fitness center, sauna, business center, laundry, tailors and child care. Further, Menam provides great conference facilities. The hotel’s shuttle boats continuously pick up and let off the hotel guests at the pier near the Saphan Taksin skytrain station. Don’t hesitate to visit www.menamriverside-hotel.com for more details.

Oriental. Oriental is the most well known hotel in Bangkok and is further one of the most luxury ones. When various magazines rank the best hotels in the world, Oriental is normally on the list. The fact that the hotel has been up running for no less than 125 years, might very well have contributed to the high standard. A large number of famous people choose Oriental when visiting Bangkok — among them actors, authors, royal families etc. The rooms are very clean and highly elegant. The same goes for the restaurants. Trying Oriental’s prominent French restaurant, Le Normandie, will not disappoint you. You will get a chance to experience what the French cuisine is like at its top. Famous French chefs are frequently at place to cook, arrange and co-ordinate the delicious food. Further, Oriental’s lush garden and the clean swimming pool will most like satisfy your expectations. Oriental is located on the Bangkok side of Chao Phraya River. Don’t hesitate to visit the hotel even if you don’t aim at staying there — it is quite an interesting experience to walk around and have a cup of coffee or tea there. The rooms start at 10.000 baht. Peninsula. Being one of the most luxury modern hotels in Bangkok, Peninsula has been awarded many distinctions during the years. Should you be a guest here, you can expect to get treated well in the luster of five golden stars. The only disadvantage with Peninsula, if any, might be the fact that the hotel is sited on the Thonburi side of Chao Phraya, opposite Oriental and Shangri-La. This implies that it takes somewhat longer to get from Peninsula to the most central parts of town than what would have been the case had the hotel instead been located on the Bangkok side. On the other hand, Peninsula offers shuttle boat service in 30 minutes interval from and to the pier next to the skytrain station Saphan Taksin. The facilities include a first class swimming pool, a pleasant garden, a outstanding spa, a clean and well equipped fitness center and conference venues. When it comes to dining, don’t hesitate to try the well reputed Chinese restaurant, Mei Jiang. The prices for a room start at 6.000 baht. Visit www.bangkok.peninsula.com for more details.

Shangri-La. Shangri-La, located right next to the classic hotel Oriental on the Bangkok side of Chao Phraya River, is yet another luxurious hotel in Bangkok. It is a large hotel with no less than 747 rooms and 52 suites. Further, Shangri-La offers serviced apartments for those who plan to stay a little longer in the metropolis of Bangkok. The hotel is undoubtedly one of the best in Bangkok and a proof of this is that large and exclusive conferences are commonly placed at Shangri-La. Consequently, the restaurants at Shangri-La are of highest class as well. One example of this is that the Italian restaurant Angelini has been voted the best Italian restaurant in Bangkok. At some of the other restaurants in the hotel complex, Thai as well as Japanese dishes are being served. Shangri-La’s facilities include spa, pool, jacuzzi and a tennis court. The prices for a room start at 6.000 baht. For more details, please visit Shangri-La’s homepage by clicking here.
